Abbreviated school day – TODAY!
First full day of school for
Rutherford County is August 11th.
Here is a refresher for those of you who may have forgotten what to do when you see a school bus. Remember to use caution when you see a school bus; they carry “our” children and they deserve our care and consideration.
Meeting a School Bus
The driver of any vehicle approaching a school bus or church bus from the front or rear, on which the yellow or red stop warning signal lights are flashing should reduce the speed of the vehicle and bring it to a complete stop while the bus stop signal arm is extended.
The vehicle must remain stopped until the stop arm is retracted and the bus resumes motion. You should never try to pass a school bus when the red signal lights are flashing and the stop sign is extended. When driving on a highway with separate roadways for traffic in opposite directions, divided by space or barrier not suitable for vehicular traffic, the driver need not stop but should proceed with caution.
NOTE: A turn lane in the middle of a four-lane highway is not considered a barrier, but a fifth lane. Those drivers meeting a stopped school bus here must stop.
